What are porcelain veneers?
Veneers are thin, handmade porcelain shells that have a wide range of applications. They can transform a smile dramatically and address a range of smile imperfections. With proper care and routine checkups, veneers last for years.
What cosmetic problems can veneers alleviate?
Covering multiple imperfections at once, veneers address some or even all of these problems on front teeth:
- Shortness or misshapenness
- Sharp or jagged edges
- Unevenness
- Gaps between the teeth
- Crowding or overlapping
- Chips
- Permanent discoloration
What happens during the procedure?
The porcelain veneer procedure can take as little as two visits. Your first visit will involve taking precise impressions of your teeth. Your custom-made veneers will be created by an experienced dental technician using these molds and Dr. Gross’ specifications. We will place temporary veneers for you to wear until your next appointment.
When you return for your second visit, Dr. Gross will remove your temporaries. Using special dental cement, he will then place each permanent veneer over its corresponding tooth. Your handcrafted porcelain veneers will resemble natural teeth and significantly improve your smile. To care for your veneers, practice daily oral hygiene at home, and visit Dr. Gross for checkups and cleanings.
How long do veneers last?
Veneers have been known to last from 10-30 years. Of course, to increase the longevity of your veneers depends upon how well you take care of them. While veneers are mostly stain resistant, they are not impenetrable. Refrain from activities that would harm natural tooth structure, like biting very hard substances or habitually chewing on pen caps and fingernails.
