Biocompatible Fillings
What Are Biocompatible Fillings?
Dental materials that do not release toxic substances or cause allergic reactions are considered biocompatible. Our biocompatible filling materials are minimally invasive and are tooth-colored, but more importantly, they are:
- Non-toxic
- Free from BPA and Bis-GMA
- Fluoride-free
- Mercury-free
- Metal-free
Over 100 years ago, dentists began placing a combination of metals in patients’ mouths as dental fillings. This amalgamation of metals is composed primarily of toxic mercury, followed by a blend of silver, copper, tin, and other trace metals.
Most general dentists no longer use amalgam fillings because advanced technology has allowed for better options. Because they no longer use mercury amalgam fillings, many practices present themselves as being “mercury-free.”
However, this doesn’t always mean they will use safe removal protocols to replace existing mercury fillings. If the removal process isn’t done correctly, you may be exposed to additional mercury vapors and particles when having a filling removed or replaced. We practice the SMART protocol for mercury removal.
Oral Health Benefits of Biocompatible Fillings
We are proud to offer biocompatible fillings as a safe and effective option for both your oral and overall health. These fillings provide a variety of benefits that support your well-being, while ensuring your smile stays beautiful and healthy for years to come.
Here are the key benefits of choosing biocompatible fillings:
Safety
Made from non-toxic materials, biocompatible fillings are free from mercury and other harmful substances, making them a great choice for individuals with allergies or sensitivities to traditional dental materials. You can trust that these fillings will not cause adverse reactions in your body.
Aesthetics
We understand that appearance matters. Biocompatible fillings are tooth-colored, ensuring a natural look that blends seamlessly with your smile, so you can feel confident about your dental work.
Durability
Designed to be long-lasting, biocompatible fillings are sturdy and resistant to wear. Unlike traditional metal fillings, they will not discolor your teeth over time, providing a healthier, more natural appearance without compromising strength.
By choosing biocompatible fillings, you are investing in a dental solution that enhances your smile, supports your health, and helps you maintain long-term well-being.
Common Dental Materials Used in Fillings
There are several different types of dental materials available, and your dentist will choose the one that is best for your particular situation.
Porcelain Fillings
Porcelain biocompatible fillings are made from a ceramic material similar to natural tooth enamel. They are solid and durable, and they can be color-matched to blend in with natural teeth. In addition, porcelain biocompatible fillings are less likely to cause sensitivity than other fillings. They are generally considered to be the best.
Composite Resin Fillings
Composite resin fillings are also more aesthetically pleasing, and we can match them to the natural color of the teeth. However, not all composite resin materials are created equal. Holistic dentists believe that oral health is essential to overall health, and they strive to use only safe, biocompatible materials in their practices. We’ve selected specific composite resin materials that are free of BPA.
By choosing biocompatible fillings, you can trust that your dental care is in line with your health values, promoting a safer, more natural smile. Let us help you achieve optimal dental health with fillings that work with your body, not against it.
